We’ve Come a Long Way Baby!

A copy of the book How To Get Your Man and Hold Him, published in 1932, recently came into my hands.

Wow, reading each of the delicate pages held together precariously by tattered binding, was beyond amusing.

It reminds me a lot of the courtship with my husband.  OK, not at all.  See that last line about “breaking down his resistance!”  describes it perfectly. (Not!)

As you may not be able to read that page clearly:

“A man likes to be proud of the girl he takes out.  If ever he starts thinking, “Mary’s a swell egg, really–but I do wish that she would pay a little more attention to her personal appearance, she never seems to look neat or groomed,” the jig is up so far as Mary is concerned.”

Sage advice indeed.  The whole book is like this and makes watching Mad Men and the progressiveness demonstrated in that show/era seem revolutionary.

Wow, we’ve come a long way…And for this post, the jig is up, though I am going to start calling people “swell eggs”  It’s catchy right?

It’s A Good Day

Seattle has looked like this, every day for a month now.

I simply can’t believe it.

This photo was taken by my husband a couple days ago in Volunteer Park.  I sent him and the kids out to take photos of things I wish I could see in person and then pour over the photos when they return.

Happy Hump Day.

P.S. I’m kind of faking it a little, though it is really truly sunny and that is a very good thing.  I have all kinds of unsavory and pissy things to say right now, but I’m trying so hard to focus on the positive.

I’m Crazy Excited About…

#1) Missoni launching a collection of 400 items for Target (think wellie boots, home decor items like pillows, trays, accessories and more) and I plan to buy every single one.  I’m not kidding, I have a whole strategy.  In stores Sept. 13th.  Cue up the count down.

#2) Football season!  As a grad. of a Big 10 Ten school, devotion to your team (Go Bucks!) becomes a top fall priority.  That and the fact that I’m basically on house arrest (no illegal doings, it’s a broken bone type of thing) means something special to look forward to in the seemingly endless hours of couch/TV.

Should we decide to rally and entertain some folks during one of these games, I know exactly what to make for the most deceptively simply and delicious snack*

Pull out a shallow dish/serving plate with a lip.  Line with Boursin (this is a fridge must-have, we use for so much like; burgers, crostinis, omelets and more) cheese about an inch thick (at room temp), top with Mango salsa, serve with whole grain scoop Tostitos.  Voila.  Easiest recipe ever, right?

*All cred. here goes to my Mom.  She’s always amazing with simple, elegant and tasty tricks like this one.

#3) Last but not least, and speaking of good TV–Yes, all this couch time does position me well as a living breathing TV Guide.  Rachel Zoe’s new season of The Rachel Zoe Project premiers tonight at 10/9c on Bravo.  Yah, I’m so excited. Can’t wait for all the fashion commentary, hilarious Rachel-speak, and peak into her life as a new mother.  Was that a Missoni Bugaboo (that’s it, we’re having a 3rd) I saw?

One last final style aside, good things come to those who wait.  My blog, Living Well 7 was recently added to a national style network, can’t wait to give you all the juicy details in an official “reveal” so soon.  The best of style across the web curated in one convenient spot.  Stay tuned!!!!

Purple Passion

I always thought purple read a little, well, “cheap” (yeah yeah, I know it was associated with royalty and all, back in the day, and please don’t be offended if you happen to live in a purple house).  I kind of feel like purple is a bit, well juvenile.  Perhaps a little too Fancy Nancy-ish, and if you have a little girl, you know exactly what I mean.  Like the way in which my 3 year currently declares purple as her favorite color and she usually means the most garish of hues.  Can’t say I blame her, I remember very clearly grape being my favorite flavor for just about everything until I was at least 12.

Moving on, growing up and perhaps standing corrected,  suddenly I am having a purple moment again.  And a sophisticated one at that.

It all started with this amazing McQueen image I’ve been obsessed about from The Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibit at the Met.,  that’s been hanging out in my Pinterest for a while.

And these luscious florals from the lobby of The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel a couple weekends ago.

And we all know that good design inspiration comes straight from nature, so I got to researching.  Turns out there is a lot of chic design in purple world.

Are you dying over these Ikat wing back chairs like I am?  I think a little contrasting turquoise accent piece (like in the center of the table) in that room would really take the room to soaring new heights.

And this over the top gorgeous Chinoiserie wall paper?  I see some statement making wall paper like this is in our near future.  Lusting over that star burst mirror as well.

And these cute cards I just ordered as my own personalized (though my name is not Amanda) stationery from Tiny Prints, Lord knows I have lots of thank you notes to be writing these days!

And finally this photo of Kate looking ever so elegant and of-the-moment in a purple Issa dress.  Ok, Ok, we’re back to royals in purple.  But let’s call a spade a spade and a gorgeous one at that.

Purple-icious (Yes, that is a word, thank you very much spell check).    I guess there’s a little Fancy Nancy in us all.

Easy Street?

This piece says it all, doesn’t it?

Let me know when you find it.
