DIY Quick Table Makeover

Paint is kind of a thing in our family.

So when I picked up this cute little hall table for $20 bucks at a flea market. I knew I could make it look a bit more “expensive” with a little help from my favorite Sherwin Williams glossy black spray paint.

A few simple sweeps changed it in no time.  Great coverage with even the spindly legs, so great if fact, I also spray painted my fingers.  Note to self, wear gloves next time.

The gloss makes it, right?

And restored to its original spot.

Look, I even found a spot for that 3 dimensional starburst I was trying to figure out where to place. Hmmm….what to paint next???

I Feel Like Chicken Tonight…

Isn’t it such a pleasant surprise to discover that a seemingly complex gourmet dish is actually SUPER easy??

I made this beauty last night.  And we all agree Roast Chicken sounds very French Bistro, no?  Definitely dinner party worthy.  Made with 3 ingredients  (or 4 if you count the chicken)  Simply buy a small/med. (depending on how many people you’re serving) whole fryer, first salt and pepper–and now this is the “hot tip” as one of my friends says, or actually more of a “chilly tip…

Unwrap the chicken, generously salt and pepper and leave in your fridge uncovered for 2 hours or so before cooking.  This helps to dry the skin out so that it gets crispy in the oven.  See, a hot tip, huh?

When you’re ready to roll, crank the oven to 450, drizzle the bird with plenty of olive oil and roast her for about an hour.  If you really want to show off for your friends and play up the Bistro thing, you can place a few sliced lemons in the cavity for some nice flavor and helps with moistness.

Refer back to top photo for evidence of a golden crispy skin.  And there you have it, as much as I love the rotisserie chickens the groceries stock for convenience, you can’t compare the smell of a freshly roasting chicken in your kitchen and this recipe is really easy.

Bon Appetit,

It Doesn’t Take Much

Pleasures as simple as these amazing flowers,

Can take my breath away.

Found this weekend at the market of course.  And this was an “expensive” bouquet–I think there was some Mother’s Day mark-up.  I typically pay $5-10 for a magnificent bouquet.

Ahh, it’s fun living in one of the flower capitols of the universe.  Word on the street is these are hybrids between peony and tulips.  No wonder I love so much–two of my favorite all time flowers.

And just wait till you see what is happening in my garden…

The Space Between

Remember that Dave Mathews song? It’s kind of my mantra with decorating.  Trying to do interesting things with the space between.

Like my mirrored hallway.  Pretend you don’t notice the leg shot in my “new” vintage mirror.  I still need to figure out where to hang this three dimensional cool spiky sunburst resting on the bottom of the rail.

And a linear display of some old Parisian pen and inks, inlaws frequently give us these for the holidays.  We have a nice collection now.

Glancing over to my new tin heart (gift for 10th anniversary–you know that 10 years is tin right?) hanging off a kitchen cabinet knob makes me happy.

I’m obsessed with things aglow.

No surprise I couldn’t resist a pair of these fun glazed rooftop tile sconces.

Even uber-functional vingnettes like this, can be beautiful.  This image pretty much sums up our life.  Hope you’re having fun with your spaces in between.
