Nantucket Reds

The Wikapedia definition:  Nantucket Reds are a style of trousers produced by Murray’s Toggery Shop, located on the islands of Nantucket and formerly on Martha’s Vineyard until January 2009. These islands are situated off the coast of Cape Cod, a peninsula of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The pants were originally an adapted form of the uniforms worn by the New York Yacht Club. Nantucket Reds are unique in that they fade to a light pink as they age. Since their inception, the cotton canvas pants have been marketed as shorts, and the trademark salmon red color has been used on hats, shirts, sweaters and socks. Nantucket Reds are worn predominately by summer residents of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cape Cod in place of khakis or chinos.  Nantucket Reds are uniquely marketed as “Guaranteed to Fade.”

The shorts…the bricks

The lobsta

The dingy

The hoodie

The plates

The rose′

The sunsets

The flora

The sauce for shooters

The wonder

The wheels

When in ACK, wear red.  Nantucket red, that is.

C’s Wonder-land

My Wonderland is Nantucket. Officially. So you can only imagine my delight when a seemingly perfect place became even more perfect with the recent addition of  C. Wonder.

I can’t believe we lucked out with the grand opening happening this weekend in Nantucket on Federal Street.

The signature green door

Plenty of off-street parking

Beach Cruisers, naturally.  Loaded with beach goodies.

Whimsy at every turn.

The pink one is right up my alley

The enamel initial bracelets rock

Cute little doggie accessory section.

All canine’s should be rewarded with Lobster roll inspired dog treats, right?  Chase, hurry to ACK, my Pooch-few.

They offered all kinds of fun freebies like these temporary tattoos

Complimentary candy bar, boy were my children in heaven.

Candy colored flip flops

Free beach totes this weekend. (Of course I had to buy my share …we went twice in one day.)  PS if you make fun of my Birks, I may have to kill you.  I have a bad foot, remember?

“Happy Hour” with free ice cream.

Too good to be true, and yet is.  Pinch me.

End of Year Reward

This is what we work towards all year.

Trying to get here.

And so we  have finally arrived to the Island of my dreams.  After a year full of physical and other challenges, I’m just gonna say it, I plan to enjoy the hell out every minute. Look forward to sharing a daily dose with you (though I did promise I would un-plug to a few people, eek maybe just a blog exception?)

Ahoy Mateys

A girl only turns 7 once, so we headed out for the high seas to celebrate…

Ok, more like Lake Union (for non-Seattle-ites: home of the Sleepless in Seattle house boat scenes)

We grabbed a bunch of sailors and a few pirates to join us

Aboard the Fremont Avenue Sunday Ice Cream Cruise

Captain Larry kept a close eye on this one.

The hats are killing me, I can be shameless for a good photo opp.

Even the weather cooperated

Ice cream, friends, a sunny day, who could ask for more?

Our youngest guest checking out the skyline.  And dressed impeccably well for the occasion, I might add.

Before long a spontaneous dance party erupted–Cap’n Larry rocks some good tunes.

I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty relieved when everyone was returned safely to solid ground.

Happy Birthday 7th Birthday to our beautiful, loving, sensitive, caring and creative daughter D.!

Thank You For Freedom

We spent a glorious day in Rosyln, Washington to celebrate Memorial Day among friends–

and it put into clear focus that we must not take for granted our many freedoms…

Freedom for innocence

Freedom to play

Freedom to ride

Freedom to feast

Freedom to share

Freedom to gather

Freedom to run

Freedom to marry whomever you choose

(Well, hopefully someday…)

Freedom for sport

Freedom to rest

Freedom to laugh

Freedom to be “supermom”

Freedom to fly

Freedom for opinions

Freedom to dream

Freedom that makes us proud

Freedom that defines us, from where we began –to where we are now.

Happy Memorial Day and a special thank you to those who sacrifice and serve so that we may be free.
