Neurotically Nautical

It’s official, the wardrobe switch over has occurred. Exit heavy wools and fabrics, enter light and breezy Spring and Summer wear. This dovetails perfectly with my obsession this time of year–what to wear/pack for our annual trip to Nantucket.

Nautical everything of course.  And I know just the place to go for inspiration….

Big hat and chic bandana tied loosely around the neck

The nautical look is timeless.

Lovely Kate knows this sporting fresh white with a sailor tie

A contrasting image, but feels as though no time has gone by…

Fun look with shorts and chuck taylors and head wrap

Elegance in crisp white

Pop of marigold

Cutie petite sailors

Rock a mini with gold accessories and leopard

And back to loose and comfy.

Even Miss Swift has the hang of it, love the clam diggers

And of course, Nantucket red is a neccesity

40 some days and counting…

Happy Humpday!

P.S. Since posting this, look what has arrived in the mail for me today from Juicy Couture?

Yippity Do Dah!  It’s soooo cute too.  I’ll accessorize it and post soon!

Cultural Kiddos

So another brave mom & I took 4 six-year-olds to the Gaugin exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum this weekend.

Perhaps not the most child appropriate material ever selected for an art exhibit, but it was funny–they didn’t really even notice.  They were more concerned with playing with the headset and dancing around to Tahitian music while mildly distracting some of the more solemn art enthusiasts.  I’m amazed we got through without too many reprimands.

So French Post- Impressionism did take much of a hold on them, but this toilet sculpture sure did.  It was their favorite part. I guess they are more into abstract art.  Please don’t ask what they found in there…

Here’s to “E” for Effort on cultivating cultural kiddos.  Hope you had a great weekend.

Rock the Color Block

It’s so hard to know what to wear in this seasonal tweener we find ourselves in. As much as I want to embrace Spring, and it’s great hearing the birds chirping and all, it’s no fun to be chilly. So how to dress comfortably yet “Spring-time Chic” can be a challenge, eh?

Here I’m wearing a cozy but light weight camel colored turtleneck (XXI) with an orange band at the bottom and sleeves.  Paired with classic trench (H&M), turquoise jeans (Madewell), leopard flats (J Crew) and some accessories that make me happy, like an “L” belt from C Wonder. Looks like the Hermes one a bit, don’t cha think? And always-classic aviators, by Rayban.

I’m loving the color block–bright pants in particular right now, when you color block you can write your own rules and have fun.

I loved my jewelry ensemble for this outfit as it reminded me of both sides of my family.  First my most cherished possession, my grandmother’s charm bracelet.

and second, a strand of hand carved ivory pearls given to me by my in laws, by Nantucket artisan Nancy Chase.  Oh and my favorite earrings that I gave to myself from local artist Juliet Roger, sold at Canopy Blue.

So Rock the Color Block and Rock the Casbah too while you’re at it.

Enjoy the weekend.

Being Positive

I’m biting my tongue right now and trying very hard to be positive.  Not always easy, is it?

So this is all for today.

SUN-day Gardening

Several years ago my Father In Law built custom beautiful flower boxes for our home.

Since the addition of them, I’ve had my floral fun seasonally filling the ground level. With all things from gigantic ornaments around the holidays, to herbs, to whatever color palette strikes my fancy.

From “winter” primrose bright yellow…

to the “latest” this weekend; now filled with cascading English Ivy, cobalt colored Lobelia and gorgeously bright blue Lithodora–for the time being. I tend to change it and add to it often.

But for one reason or another, (one year I had a baby, another we traveled a lot, blah, blah) I never got around to filling the second story one.

This sunny weekend, I decided to cross it off the to-do list.

I finally planted the second story one.  Notice the 100 year old “character windows” as they call them.  Yet another to-do list item.

This is the view from the inside out.  It is filled with more Rapunzel-like cascading ivy (I transplanted some from the lower one and dug some up from my yard for long sweeps, resourceful eh?), breezy grasses, and magenta Pericallis, sweet pale pink Diascia. I also have some bright green sweet potato vine to plant and some natural fertilizer to make everything look BIG, I’ll take a picture and post in a few weeks again.  Now, if we can just keep that sun shining, as it did all weekend…

Of course, Pinterest has an abundance of inspiration for the garden and window box.  Check out my “How Does Your Garden Grow” board grow here.
