Cinderella’s Slipper? No, but pretty rad shoes!

I love shoes and who doesn’t love giving back?

This is why I’m really crushing on Toms Shoes right now. Plus, how totally cute are these wedges?

Wedge
Don’t own yet, but will shortly after this post…

They are trendy, but comfy and eco-friendly to boot. Oh and the price point is pretty reasonable too. The wedges are $64, I believe. Carried @ Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.

Here’s the story, for every pair of shoe a consumer buys, the company donates a pair of shoes for a child in a 3rd world country.

This is excerpt below from their blog:

“Why is it so important for us to give shoes to kids around the globe? We have a few main reasons:

Injury and Disease- Walking around barefoot (especially when you have to walk long distances for water, to school and for medical care) can be
really dangerous. Kids are susceptible to contracting diseases like human hookworm and podoconiosis. A simple cut can make a child
vulnerable to nasty diseases like tetanus. Education and opportunity-In many areas of the world, kids cannot go to school without a pair of
shoes. So, if they have a pair, they can attend class. A Better Tomorrow- The combination of both health and education give children
access to a brighter future. And TOMS loves being a part of that story. So how do we do it? We give shoes through our reputable non-profit
partners around the globe. Their health and education programs supplemented by our shoes help us reach kids in a responsible and sustainable way. For more information on how we give check out our website. And if you know of an organization that is interested in receiving some of our shoes, please send them to http://toms.com/givingpartners.

Love at First Sight

OK, so I’m not alone. A home in Nantucket isn’t only just MY dream, (see previous posts) turns out others hold this dream as well. You MUST read this article in New EnglandHome and look at some of the divine photos from this lovely remodeled home on the Island of my dreams (a.k.a Nantucket).

There is so much I love about this space. The pastel Windsor chair, the interesting textiles on the pillows, That GORGEOUS Island light streaming, the freshly plucked hydrangeas, and of course the darling built-ins that I can only imagine are full of puzzles, and place mats, and perhaps a hidden present or two…Bravo!in Full disclosure: I didn’t find this “first”. Again from my soon-to-be favorite blog, House of Turquoise.

PS, It’s getting sunnier and warmer. I may not need to “surf” to dream locations daily as I have been…

Do you have a case of the Mondays?

On a cloudy Seattle Monday, I'm finding myselfa little obsessed with this color drenched breakfast nook, that I came across while reading a wonderful fellow blogger's, page: House of Turqouise

Runnin’ Down a Dream

Growing up, I was a day dreamer. I would dream of what my life would look like someday. Funny enough, in so many ways, what my life has become, is pretty close to what I dreamed up. Granted, there has been a surprise or two along the way, but isn't that what makes things interesting?

I know there have been books written about this, like The Secret, It states that everything one wants/needs may be accomplished by only wishing it.

Do you believe it?

What is your ultimate dream?

Is it a profession you should have sought out and didn't…a lifestyle you're striving for…a way of giving back to the world that you somehow haven't gotten the chance to do yet?

I was inspired last weekend by the story of an artist, John Bukaty who paints live acrylic paintings at an event, like a concert or a wedding.

This person was someone we used to know when living in Chicago, working in an uninspired job and one day decided to quit, go to art school and reinvent himself. I love it.

For me, I have always wanted a summer getaway home on or near the water. A beach cottage in Sconset on Nantucket is my ultimate. You gotta dream big after all.

Cottage

A place to drink in the ocean air…simply open the front door to sweep it out, read books, and come back to center with family and friends. Last weekend we were in Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands it was breathtakingly beautiful,

I had a chance to revisit my dream. that spot would certainly work too! Aren't I so flexible, ??? Ha!

Oh and some day I'm going to be on the other end of philanthropy and give a charitable "transformational gift" (or in other words, "BIG") as we call it in the industry, too. (I'm not that materialistic, and PS, it's a rule you can't judge people's dreams!)

At any rate, take in some of Tom Petty's wisdom and start "runnin' down your dreams…" Be the person you dreamed you would be.

Weekend Brunch Anyone?

Since it's Thursday, it's definitely not too early to start thinking about the weekend. I love a good weekend brunch.

As far as entertaining, this is an easy peasy one in in my book.

Check out the menu for a brunch we hosted recently.

Yogurt Parfait

Vanilla yogurt, layered with pomegranate seeds (Trader Joes has these freshly harvested for you). Diced green apple, and walnuts

Pomegranate

Serve in pretty glasses like these from Sur La Table

Freshly baked almond croissants

Full disclosure, I never make these myself. I don't know why I ever would when the guys at Bakery Nouveau put out pastry that could rival any of the best french patisseries.

A good ole fashioned Egg Casserole.

I love how you can make this the night before, throw it in the oven and voila.

EASY EGG CASSEROLE
2 lb. sausage
1 lb. Cheddar cheese, grated
1 (4 oz.) green chilies
1 c. taco sauce
2 eggs per person
Fry
and drain sausage. In a 13 x 9 inch pan, layer sausage, cheese,
sausage, etc. as far as they go. Sprinkle chilis and taco sauce on top
of sausage and cheese. Mix eggs as if for scrambling. Pour egg mixture
over layers.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Let sit for 5
minutes before cutting. (This can be made in advance except for the
eggs. Pour eggs right before baking.)

source: cooks.com. Then garnish with a dollop of sour cream.

Beverages

Of course in that we reside in Seattle, home to the coffee snobs, must have top notch drip to serve. We love Stumptown. Turns out these grinds have a cult following as well. Honestly.

And sometimes there is a little "hair of the dog situation" that needs to be addressed:

  • so we like to put out the fixin's for Bloody Mary bar for guests to garish as they please.
  • and finally, no brunch would be complete without Mimosas with Freshly squeezed O.J.
