Who Let The Dogs Out?

You know when you're having one of those weeks where you simply wouldn't survive without your local little pre-prepared food shop or portion of the grocery store? Well, I'm having one of those weeks. Thank GOD for The Northwest Catering Co. where I can quickly pop in for a delciously gourmet meal for my family, that is so far beyond "ordinary"

Like these little cream filled doggy eclairs with precious puppy faces!

I mean, can anyone say Super Mom for treating my kids to these, (regardless of whether I actually made them?) after a hearty fall meal? Like another of my favorites from there–their chili releno casserole that I pretty much lick from the container.

I'm all about the shortcuts, but if I were to have to make it, I found a recipe that sounds simple and relatively fast on allrecipes.com

CHILI RELLENOS CASSEROLE
Prep Time:
15 Min
Cook Time:
45 Min
Ready In:
1 Hr
Original Recipe Yield 6 servings
Ingredients
  • 2 (7 ounce) cans whole green chile peppers, drained
  • 8 ounces Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 8 ounces Longhorn or Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Lay half of the chilies evenly in bottom of baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the Jack and Cheddar cheeses, and cover with remaining chilies. In a bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, and flour, and pour over the top of the chilies.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove from oven, pour tomato sauce evenly over the top, and continue baking another 15 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining Jack and Cheddar cheeses, and serve.

To round out the meal, I've found that this works well to serve with boxed Spanish Rice (I know it doesn't sound gourmet, but trust me, Rice a Roni's Spanish rice really is good and can fake out the pickest of pallete's) and I dice half a fresh tomato to add to it. Serve with tortilla chips and "mexican caviar" aka my absolute FAV., GUACAMOLE, and you are set.

ENJOY!

Cocktails with Style

One of my favorite Sunday evening rituals involves watching the latest episode of Mad Men. There are so many aspects of this show that make that bygone era so alluring, but for now, let's focus on one. The omni-present bar cart.

Don Draper never seems more than a few steps from a fully stocked bar. Picture a pretty crystal ice bucket, always full of fresh cubes, fun cocktail glasses and a large assortment of bottles of all shapes, colors and sizes just awaiting your concoction. This isn't just about promoting reckless drinking at all hours of the day, but everyone needs to wet their whistle, even if it's just a Perrier or some freshly squozen juices.

Look how sleek and beautiful and simple this design is:

To show off your new cart, proudly display some Hangar One or St. George Single Malt from hot new distillery out of San Francisco.

CHEERS! And good night Don.

Best thing about Fall?

Boots.

OK, there are many wonderful aspects of Fall, but best thing about Fall fashion? Boots.

I love em. If I had to narrow my wadrobe investments, they would fall into 2 categories:great boots and great jackets. (You almost don't need much else to make a statement). Stay tuned for an awesome jacket post.

These are my favs. right now.

#1. Classic riding style. How cute are these camel (also favorite leather hue of the moment) colored ones? Found at Hayden-Harnett.

#2. Edgy, very "now" rocker look found at Piperlime and by Steve Madden.

Boots

#3 Classic in another way. Frye's Motorcycle Boot.

There you have it. I'm sure I don't have to tell you to rock over skinny jeans/pants, or with tights, skirts, etc. You can hardly go wrong.

PS I hope to not neglect you all too much. I am in the THICK of fundraising season. Good thing my boots were meant for walkin'!

Singing in the Rain

After the super soaking ofSeptember (say that 3 times fast, I dare you!) we're currently experiencing, you pretty much have to. Or you'll lose your marbles. And whoever said that Seattle-ites don't use umbrellas, as it's usually just a "light mist," is lying.

Thank goodness there is a silver lining. Bella Umbrella outfits our soggy sect marvelously. Check out the cute Ballard (the ceiling reminds me of Chihuly glass like hung at the Bellagio) storefront, and if you're not in the area, they have a wonderful Website choc. full of their unique creations.

My favorite, favorite one is the black and white pagoda style.

And you know how I feel about vintage…check out this too cute for words umbrella from the 70's. Love love love.

And finally how sweet is this child's little parasol? I sense a photo shoot coming on withour little ones…

Now onto securing that never out of syle and always fabulous Burberry trench. The use per wear cost quotient, justifies it alone, whether you come from land of the rain or not.

Calgon Take me Away

After having a somewhat frenzied week of back to school and assorted fall start-up madness, I am finding myself dreaming of a few stolen moments to myself.

I've been obsessed with big deep bathtubs like this gorgeous tub, floating in the middle of the room, center stagefor a while…

What a perfect spot to let the world melt away.

There is so much to love about this design. The over sized clam shell as an homage to the sea. The wonderful chandelier, the cool fixture, the sparkly candelabra, the airy window coverings.

Ahhh…my blood pressue us coming down just looking at this.

Thank God it's Friday.
