“Drama” is a Good Thing

In the context of interiors, that is.

Ever notice how the right kind of decor, can take you from “Blahhh” to “YAH!!” ?

This was the instant mood elevation upon walking into to Kate Sehulster’s Guesthouse

I’m such a sucker for playful sophistication and this is the vibe of this fun interior designer’s Madrona storefront.

Loving the versatility of this canvas settee punched up with colorful pillows and textiles.

While my love of chandeliers is well-documented throughout this blog, I’ve never seen inter-changeable candle sleeve replacements, like these to change up your lighting and look of a room (think sconces too!) in a nano-second.

Look at the fun assortment of colors and patterns made by KaarsKoker.  There is always a next level of detail, now isn’t there?  Afterall, it’s ALL in the details…

And I swear, one day I’m going to get some “balls” (of course I am a lady, just not speaking like one at the present moment) and paint a living room or parlor a dark color with some gloss (we are talking “drama” here, remember?)  like this, for an elegant contrast against white and gold and light reflection as seen below with the mirrors.

Should you need some help upon achieving any of these looks on your own, you may consider taking a gander at some of the book titles she also sells.

So go ahead and have yourself some Hump Day Drama!

Happiness Is…

A painted face…

Or a painted rainbow face…

Or dressing expressively, like these Seattle folks I encountered on the street a couple days ago.

Left to right: Benihana, Lady Krishina, Kook Teflon, Dustin!

What fills your happy cup?  Fill it to the BRIM baby!

Staple & Fancy

You know something is good, when experts make it look “easy.”

This is the experience of eating at Ethan Stowell’s Staple & Fancy housed in an old mercantile building in Ballard.

Our primo seats at the bar allowed us to peer into the open kitchen to view the careful preparation of menu items.  From searing whole fish and whole chickens on top of a blazing hot grill to all the details going into finishing a plate.  This vantage was synonymous to having tickets on the 50 yard line in my book.

The grilled country Columbia City bread served with house made ricotta (which was soooo far from the store bought and texturally challenging ricotta we grew up with…think creamy rich, fluffy wonderfulness) and spicy coppa blew me away with its simplicity and specialness in the same swoop.

Then we ordered clams, served again, simply–with bacon, parsley and lemon couldn’t have been more perfect.

I realize you all don’t live in Seattle and get to have clams freshly plucked from the waters, but Father’s Day is just around the corner…sooo you may want to check out his cookbook, Ethan Stowell’s New Italian Kitchen. and at least try to make it look as easy as he does.

We Earned Today!

Let’s be honest, I do my fair share of trash talkin’ Seattle weather.

But, on a day like today, the beauty of this city is hard to beat.

A few pics. from around town this morning.

My 2nd cup of Joe and some quick baked eggs (served in a small skillet with ham & gruyere, yum!) outside today at Oddfellows Cafe this a.m.  This spot makes me happy, plain and simple.

Gorgeous ring of fuschia colored azaleas planted around a tree at Volunteer Park.  Those Olmstead Brothers really knew what they were doing when designing this beautiful park.

Up the hill in the park, a peek-a-boo view of The Space Needle off in the distance.

Still snow capped Cascades Mountains off on the distance, Lake Washington in the forefront.

Wherever you are today, enjoy!

Dress Dilemma

Still not warm out, this is true–
When will it get hot?
I wish I knew.

Retail therapy becomes what I do.
So I head to J.Crew,
To get something new,
That is also blue.

I have a dilemma, and would love to hear from you.

Return or keep?

Certainly I already have a dress or two…

“You-Hoo…”

What’s your point of view?
