Done Decking…(almost)

You know when you have reached that “good enough” point, I think we are there.

After all, it’s not about perfection,

But it is somewhat about the true “light” of the season. This is why I love a home aglow.

So savor and treasure the gifts around us.

and perhaps cuddle up next to the fire and actually start enjoying this time of year.  I’m going to make an earnest effort as I certainly can’t keep up with everyone else in a physical sense.

And you know what, no one is going to care if you don’t order that last present, tie the perfect bow or that there is no panettone left at Trader Joes (by the way, there isn’t), remember what is important and cling to it.

Deck The Doors!

I was selected to design a post on festive holiday doors a.k.a. “Deck the Doors” that debuts on December 22.  So, you know what that means? Enter fast and furious “research mode.”

Thank goodness Nantucket Elves were on Island last weekend for The Nantucket Christmas Stroll to help gather inspiration!

This first image literally makes me sigh audibly…and pine for the Faraway Isle.

but this next one makes me feel doubly welcomed.

This kind of patina, just simply cannot be recreated.

None the less, I will try.

Knock knock, anyone home?

Check back for more holiday everything.  Decor, food, fashion…you know the “the 7”.  ‘Tis the Season!

Tree Trimmin’

Alright, I’m feeling it now, spurred on after a little trip to Red Ticking.  It’s a personal holiday goal to not have to step foot in a mall, and there’s certainly not a need to with a shop as charming and inspiring as this little gem of a boutique (with a wonderful blog and online store if you’re not local).

One of the loveliest places to trim your tree, ever, perhaps (I’m all about bold statements, but this might not be an over-exaggeration).

Jars of fanciful vintage beads and bling, over-sized mercury ornaments,

glass shell ornaments and various sea creatures with the perfect amount of sparkle and winter wonderland and so much more–ahhhh.

and a sweet little cardboard Xmas tree that only knows the bounds of your own creativity–this one donned red foil candy wrappers.

And to finish the experience with a cup of cocoa.  NOW it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

Starting to Deck Our Halls

Cards out…tree up–bu-yah.  Now onto the decorating (which I said I wasn’t going to do this year, yeah yeah)…

First made a festive and fun centerpiece with a Simon Pearce bowl filled with antique nautical floats, antlers and some old ornaments.

Play dates purposed with greenery gathering

For the kid craft tree, notice how the tree base is made out of a mason jar filled with red and green markers (my sitters idea, which I love!)?  Plus, I told the kids I’d reimburse them one penny for each pine cone they found in the woods.

A little extra motivation never hurt anyone, right?  Tree sourced from Dick Blick from my crafty M.I.L.

I love a house smelling like evergreen, plus it’s an easy and beautiful way to set the nativity.  Glowing tea lights make it extra inviting, white Glassybabys are my fav.

Outside a retro Santa keeps watch.  More updates to come!

It’s the Little Things

In life that make it so sweet.  And I won’t lie, I get to do my fair share of cool stuff usually.  But the little things make me happiest.

Like this message that greeted me after doing some erands

And a cake that makes me a decade younger… you have no idea what serious points my husband got for this!

And surprise flowers delivered to my office.

And calls and emails and many other niceties.  I feel loved and can’t wait for the year ahead with all those moments to experience, both little and big.
