Delicousness

Forgive my lack of posting, new jobs will do that to you–considering I’m usually quite the multi-tasker, this is really saying something.

Anyho, Let’s talk about food a moment, shall we? One of the ultra groovy/soon-to-be dangerous, aspects of my new location in downtown Seattle is being walking distance to four Tom Douglas restaurants.

Tom-Douglas-Seattle-Kitchen

And if you think this is just a Seattle relevant post, you’re wrong as he was the 3rd Tom down on my Bing search, talk about a food Legend!. Last week, I checked out Serious Pie and my my, I love that pie. I noshed on a seasonal salad of mustard greens, pistachio and a delicious cows milk cheese mixed in before devouring a truffle and mushroom pizza (the crust is indescribably good).I can also throw stones practically at The Palace Kitchen, Lola, and Dahlia Lounge. Picking a favorite among these would be like picking a favorite kid…

But I must be mindful of my glutonous food consumption in this season of events and galas afterall, there are gowns to be squozen into.

Three Cheers for The ARTS!

Need an arts fix?  The arts scene in Seattle is rockin’, so check them out:

Where would Seattle and the grunge music scene be without legendary rocker Kurt Cobain?

The works on display beginning May 13, 2010-September 2010 pay homage to a life lived too shortly by Kurt and the generation he represented at Seattle Art Museum

beginning now through the month of June, we celebrate “one of the most prodigally talented and successful musicians in American history.” New York Times There is so much going on with this festival, you must check this calendar in the above link carefully beginning May 8th, with a young persons concert at Seattle Symphony conducted by Maestro Gerard Schwarz.

And finally head to the theater to realize the entertainment of bringing back the art of story telling within the context of an ancient tale at the world premiere of An Iliad being performed at The Seattle Repertory Theatre April 9-May 16.

How Do I Love Thee, Target…?

Let me count they ways! I love/hate this "new economy" in so many different ways. The silver lining of this post is super accessible fashion, a la that favorite red Bulls-eyed store, a.k.a Target (if you pronounce the t at the end silently, it sounds fancier!) What brilliant marketing strategy to provide couture for the masses?

1. Zac Posen, for Target Check it out, wish I could provide a pic., but I think the designs are pretty protected, as he is such a damn genius.

Love love love the two piece ruffled frock. Here we go Sex and the City II, and the pouf is detachable (rock over leggings and other cute l.b.d.'s in your closest). Divine. Hello Carrie!

2. Liberty of London for Target

Target-liberty
Think retro prints very much like cutie, but sometimes over-priced, Trina Turk (plus I always find her stuff marked down at Nordstrom Rack) and for theses Target prices, almost as cheap as lunch with a friend who you don't really even like that much!

3. Cynthia Vincent shoes

I saw these and literally made a bee-line to the Bullseye.

Best Design Show Ever

Once upon a time I watched television channels outside of Bravo. Which brings us to the present, my favorite show, and obsession du jour, 9 By Design.

How can you not love this sexy, edgy and loud couple Bob and Cortney (my alter ego) Novogratz with incredible design vision and seven, yes that’s seven, children ranging from newborn to pre-teen? And I thought my life was a little chaotic with a lot of balls in the air so to speak, but it looks downright vanilla and calm by comparison. Check out their site and when not filming reality tv shows, their real world design biz. called Sixx Design. A heavy dose of creative-cool comin’ right at ya.

This NYC couple and their brood of 7, build (they are going to have to change the name of the design biz) and design dream homes that they live in, and eventually sell or rent for a huge premium and then move on to the next dream. The aesthetic seems to be Andy Warhol meets French Flea Market, all set in large open spaces with such unique touches, as a custom caged rooftop basketball court that mirrors the achitecture of a nearby dome, it puts one’s imagination into over-drive. I just love it.

Their last two projects/homes located smack dab in the middle of Manhattan, will go on the market for $15 million and $25 million. Considering they were built from the ground up where a gas station and s&m shops once stood, quite the design feat and trust me, the show chronicles all the headaches along the way.

To get the flavor, either get sucked into Bravo’s latest like myself, or take the high road, as they have a book called Downtown Chic: Designing Your Dream Home: From Wreck to Ravishing

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

As I got a much needed coif-up the other day, is that a term? I asked my trusted hair advisors from Gary
Manuel
Salon and Kismet about emerging trends in hair.

So here they are:

Solid color–highlights
are out. Of course keep in mind that nothing is really "out" if it
works on you…this is not a hard and fast "in and out" list like
People Magazine style edition. I'm prepared for a backlash on this, but this trend they say is what the trade magazines are buzzing about.

Accessories for hair–things like feather clips and headbands, I love studded headbands or bejeweled ones, and as for feather clips, check out these these examples from style me pretty

Handmade-wearable
Temporary styling–OK
this really intrigues me, as I haven't really changed my
hairstyle dramatically since about 8th grade (oh wait, suddenly
remembering a traumatic bad bob moment right out of college–eek!),
making me a hair commitment-phobe. Simple temporary changes like
switching your part can totally change your look. Adding temporary
"fringe" by pinning over a long layer in the front for glamorous pseudo fringe. And
this last trick was really cool, if you have long hair, twirl the body
of the hair in the back and then, pinning it underneath to create a faux cool bob. Bob-for-a -day, that I could probably handle. This looks especially chic if you have some long
layers to hang out over. It's like short/shorter hair for the day
only. Fun.

Braids—A loose braid swooped to one side is uber chic right now.

Then we also talked about salons that do nothing other than give you a top notch blowout or style. You know those nights where your style needs a little boost. Head to a"style bar" like here in Seattle we have a cool spot called Swink

And finally, if you're also a hairstyle commitment phobe, you may check out these sites to try a style on virtually. www.thehairstyler.com
