End of Summer Hurrah!

Yesterday was a very special bookend to summer–and what a wonderful one it was!  Lake Goodwin or more like Lake Goodtimes, was the perfect way to end the summer.

And now we welcome backpacks and uniforms, homework and shorter days.  A very special thanks to the Z’s for hosting a splendid last hurrah!

Art Imitating Life

Isn’t it intriguing when art imitates life?  And two of our Northwestern prides collide?

Our optimal growing rewards us abundantly with gorgeous summer dahlias as seen at Volunteer Park’s Dahlia Garden

Inspiring art all around us like the awesome installations found Chihuly Garden and Glass.

Mimicking the color

The fragility

The explosion

the form

Turns out that nature is the perfect muse.

Staycation

It’s hard to beat a nice day in Seattle. And a nice day in Seattle staying at the Four Seasons...well, now you’re talking very hard to beat.  Located just steps from Pike’s Place Market, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Great Wheel…

Oh and did I mention they have an infinity pool that overlooks the Puget Sound?

I’m a sucker for outdoor poolside service, it makes room service seem ho hum, don’t you think?

And the Four Seasons does not miss a detail.  From serving frozen grapes to hot sunbathers to complimentary sunscreen, a free movie library, kid-size bathrobes and slippers–they cover all the bases.

Everything is beautifully presented.

The sunsets are not to be missed, casting a warm glow of summertime delight.

No lines, no airports, no rental cars, no hassle.  Just a wonderfully relaxing and luxurious respite only a few miles down the street.  Next time you vacay, consider Staycay!

Summer Bucket List Part II

Who remembers that early to mid-90’s TV show Northern Exposure? C’mon I know you remember.  Cool factoid, it was filmed in Rosylyn, WA–an old coal mining town about 1 hr. east of Seattle.

We have been to Rosyln and nearby resort Suncadia, about half a dozen times, and it too made our summer bucket list.  While I love being a city slicka (that word just rolls off the tongue too perfectly), periodically I crave that slower counter point,

and Roslyn fills the bill perfectly.  The pace in Rosyln is slow and dreamy.

And there may not be much more to do than pick cherries

or summer time berries–(by the way this was my kids first encounter with a grasshopper, man those suckers are fast!)

or the perfect bouquet of wildflowers.

The natives don’t blink

and we swing high

and enjoy the open sky.

Taking in a zen moment

Or two

In a magical secret (only known by locals) spot.

Where the parking is free

But these carefree days of summer are numbered.

Summer Bucket List Part I

So sorry for my lack of posting, have been busy playing. We are working on our summer bucket list (and by the way, I’m only talking about summer kicking the bucket here!) if you will. Seattle’s Great Wheel was one such adventure.

I love playing tourist in my own city.  Here’s a quick tip: to stand in one line versus two, order your tickets online and print ahead of time.

And the wheel is such a fun cool addition to Seattle’s water front.

As you go up-up-up…

and around.

A seagull’s eye view.

Not recommended for those with a fear of heights.  If you ask me, it was that perfect combo of thrill and a touch of fear (though perfectly safe, of course)

Come back again soon as we are working against the clock to get all those summer adventures in!
