Marvelous Mud Rooms

Doesn’t the start of a New Year put your organizational sprockets into over-drive? Oh how, I just want to walk around my house with a big garbage bag and de-clutter and figure out better “systems” for just about everything! Living in Seattle, a room that I now pine for in my “dream home” someday, is the Mud Room (this one below would be especially appropriate for us, with the black furry friend and all!). Image: Elle Decor Yes, I suppose it is because things do tend to get a little muddy this time of year. Or maybe it’s this stage…

A Homemade Christmas

In an attempt to avoid random retail rip-offs this year, we decided to gothe route of thoughtful and homemade gifts. First up, Gift #1: My husband’s hobby du jour: Pickling. I fully embraced this concept as a gift, especially as classic Ball Jars (that the goods come in), are so cute. They can be used as drinking vessels, as vases, for organizing kids art supplies, for pickling, and on and on. I can’t get enough of them. The actual pickling, he says is easy (my part is more like color coordinating the ribbons as a final touch) The recipe is…

Happy Chic

I thought this would be an ironic and apropos post considering my new recent and major “change of status” in the employment department. More about that later… But alas, this title, doesn’t only refer to me, but one of my favorite designers, Jonathan Adler. Ahh, I love it when people make fun of me to my face!) So, I thought of this post while perusing Barnes & Noble…

All I Want For Christmas Is…

…My whole house to be designed by total rock star NYC Designer Amanda Nisbet. Not too much is it? Afterall, I’ve been very good this year. I just adore the simplicity and style of this room. With both the greek key design on the window treatments and gorgeous color palette. The built-ins, the molding, oh I could go on and on. And this next space. A little bolder, but just as beautiful, check out at the inspired and vividly contrasting colors in this sitting area: What an amazingly cool way to frame out a space with curtains, window or not….

Cat Scratch Fever…

Raise your hand if you LOVE leopard print? Yep, you guessed it. Guilty. I love how usually just a little touch can transform a look to evoke, “expensive” Like this elegant stair runner, which doesn’t for a moment play “cheap” with all the bright freshly white coated paint and trim and antique accessories… (photo cred. unknown, so sorry!) Throw pillows–look how fun it is to mix and match a leopard throw pillow with unexpected patterns like the Ralph Lauren tartan plaid shown here. How bout a little panache at your southern most extremeties, like with these darling Tory Burch Reva…
