Emerging Food Trend Alert: Pie

Pie. That’s right, pie. I am cracking up writing this as my husband’s skin kind of crawls at the sound of this word. You’ve got to imagine it sort of drawled out, like, “paaaaaii.” Though silly word pet peeves aside, ironically he is taking a liking to the actual food trend du jour, pie. We love to take our kids to a casual but festive dinner on a Friday night, usually it entails something more like a pizza pie. Though, tonight we discovered the cherry on top, with local Fremont, new-on-the-scene, Pie. All hand-made of course. If I were looking…

Is The Glass Half Full or Half Empty?

Why it’s half full of course! But the real question is, with what? After hosting a friend’s baby shower recently, I finally couldn’t resist the temptation to invest in three different size and shapes of apothecary jars. To honor the baby boy, I assembled an assorted mixture of blue candies and chocolate for a candy buffet per the color palette of the par-tay. Now that most of the goodies have been gobbled, I can hardly wait to make a decorative statement with them in other interior decor capacities. June in January

Last night some gal pals and I checked out fun Madrona neighborhood spot, June. I immediately feel in love with the eclectic and chic interior, like the concrete strip on the walls. Gray is my favorite hue these days, as accent colors just pop with it, like these fun grassy green chairs. Photo Credit: Clare Barboza I could have literally ordered one of everything from the menu. The burger, mouth watering. Photo: Also Clare Barboza We also noshed on a fabulous octopus appetizer served with pickled fennel, squash tempura bathing in some garlicy aoli, a delicious baguette served with cr

A Homemade Christmas

In an attempt to avoid random retail rip-offs this year, we decided to gothe route of thoughtful and homemade gifts. First up, Gift #1: My husband’s hobby du jour: Pickling. I fully embraced this concept as a gift, especially as classic Ball Jars (that the goods come in), are so cute. They can be used as drinking vessels, as vases, for organizing kids art supplies, for pickling, and on and on. I can’t get enough of them. The actual pickling, he says is easy (my part is more like color coordinating the ribbons as a final touch) The recipe is…

Sweatermas 2010

Wow, I can’t hardly believe it’s the end of December, almost the end of the year. And not much posting. VERY VERY sorry. I will make it up to you with some juicy material from this point forward. It’s a promise. First up Sweatermas. Or in my case, hideous Christmas Dress’mas. Now we have closed in on our 3rd Annual of this cooky holiday tradition. And I have to say, the guests did not dissapoint. As a matter of fact, folks really took it to the next level. Some of the flavor (literally) of the night included a meat tree,…
